Ktm allows for .62 ounces of oil use per hour by the book, which is not acceptable to me. While ktms breakin is more modern as well as other companies in getting more realistic , back in 83 I did a breakin in 2006 Ktm 400 exc turned 450 exc Oil leaking. I just bought a 06 400 exc that had the 450 conversion put onto it. It runs strong and seemingly everything sounds and feels like it should. I had did the water pump rebuild replacing the bearing and seals because it was letting some oil out of the weep hole which seemingly helped the leak.

i`ve got a 450 in a BETA, from new was 1/4 glass running & 1/2 glass shutdown, 3 oil changes with filters i use 1 litre and it still sits in the same spot, i check it regularly & have never noticed any change. Every oil change i do filters & screens.
kuzman86. Posted October 20, 2010. I just bought a 2009 KTM 450EXC and put 800 miles on it. I rode it for 3 hours with the original oil. At 3 hours I put in dino oil and ran it until 10 hours and ran synthetic since. I changed the oil every 8 hours and cleaned the air filter every ride.

Posted July 31, 2020. The 350's have had a problem for several years, hadnt heard of 450's failing. The 450's arent the same motor design . 250's and 350's are same design, 450's and 500 different design. The 350 issue, was the plastic gear reverting back to a liquid state, not like breaking teeth, but actually liquidizing, sometimes bad enough Hi Guys, I am a little confused and would love some help. I was doing an oil change on my 07 450 exc last night, I got the short screen and the drain plug undone however couldn't for the life of me get the long screen bolt to undo, and now its burred, and I can't for the life of me understand why the previous owner had done these up so tight.
