I got annoyed and decided I'd be better off looking myself and it turned out that it was two of the metal clips holding the plastic wiper surround Ford S-Max engines for 2015 models onwards. 2015 and later S-Max models come with the same engines as the Mondeo, Edge and Galaxy, which consist of two petrol and one diesel model. The 2.0 SCTi has 240 hp and the 160 hp 1.5 SCTi Ecoboost, although the 2.0 can only be used with Ford's Powershift Gearbox.
Get the covers off the engine (if fitted) and rig up a camera and light from the body pointing at the engine. Start it recording and see if it registers engine movement when you corner at speed. Probably need a decent amount of light to go with the camera and a really secure fixing for them both.
Have done 3 belts on the 2.0 TDCi all F.L versions and 1 on a Volvo V50 2.0D (same engine). The hardest part is the crankshaft bolt , the other bits are straight forward , you need 1-2 jacks and axlestands. Time from start to finish about 3 hours in a slow pace in my driveway. Someone experienced with a garage / lift should manage the job in 2

The TDCI engines though had both a belt and a chain while Mondeo cars with the 2.0
